CPC091292 108.DOC The Complete Answering Machine Telephone System Connections This document is provided as "For your information" and as is. Neither The Complete PC nor any of it's employees assume any responsibility for consequences resulting from the use of the following information nor can the Complete PC technical support provide help with this document. The user of said information does so at his or her own risk. This information is provided to help explain what is necessary to connect CAM to your telephone line and telephone. If you are not sure about your telephone system, please show this document to the person in charge of telephone service in your organization. CAM requires an RJ-11 (single-line) or RJ-14 (two-line) connection to the phone line. If a two-line phone is used, CAM will be attached ONLY to the first line; the second phone line will still be connected to the telephone but CAM cannot take messages or call out on that line. (Please be advised that many two line phones do not work with CAM due to the amount of line voltage they draw from the telephone line.) CAM uses the wires known as "tip and ring" (or red and green) for connection to the telephone line only. CAM requires a standard touch-tone phone (commonly known as an AT&T 2500-type telephone) for local operation. Be sure that your push-button telephone generates tones (not clicks) when the buttons are pressed. CAM will work on standard central office subscriber lines or most PBXs. If you are connecting CAM to a PBX, please ask the person in charge of telephone service in your organization for the following information: Is Call Transfer available on the phone system? If so, does it work by "flashing", then issuing a transfer code followed by the target extension? (the answers to this question and the previous one must both be YES for CAM to be able to transfer your callers to another extension) What is the Transfer Code (if any) for the phone system? What is the recommended touch-tone duration for this phone system (in milliseconds)? What is the recommended touch-tone spacing for this phone system (in rnilliseconds)? What is the recommended flash duration (in tenths of a second)? How long after picking up the phone should CAM wait to get a dial tone (maximum specified for the phone system - this is the "wait for dial tone" parameter - in tenths of a second)? What codes are there for requesting an outside line or other type of off-premises call (such as 9 or 81 - these are the "request for outside line" parameters)? . After requesting an outside line, how long should CAM wait to get the outside dial tone (maximum specified for the phone system - this is the "wait for outside line" parameter - in tenths of a second)? If you pick up the phone and do nothing, how long do you have before the phone system gives you an error (this is for the "wait for local phone" parameter- the number you choose should be smaller than the error time-out for you telephone system)?
