The user of said information does so at his or her own risk. There are some general rules as to which phone systems will work with The Complete Answering Machine (CAM). The phone line must be an ANALOG telephone line as opposed to a DIGITAL telephone line. If a modem can be placed on that line, then that line should be able to support a CAM. CAM is a one line system, therefore if the installation site has a multiline phone system, only 1 line can accessed by CAM. If the installation site has a DIGITAL phone system, the CAM can be placed on a phone line before the DIGITAL system. (For instance, a line comes from the wall to a box that converts the lines to DIGITAL, CAM must be installed before the box.). If you are planning to use the call transfer feature of CAM and don't know if it will work with your phone system, CAM uses call transfer with the switch hook. i.e. CAM presses the switch hook (also known a "flash"), waits for dialtone, then dials the appropriate touchtones. If you can do this transfer manually on your phone system the CAM should be able to do it automatically. The phone system must issue a flash. Systems that emit a special tone for transferring will not work with CAM. If a customer owns a Merlin System, they will need to purchase a BTMI (Basic Telephone Modem Interface) to connect with CAM. They are available through most AT&T phone stores. There is a known incompatibility with Panasonic VA8405 2-Line, KXT61650, KXT61620, and KXT61630 phones. KEY SYSTEMS or Electronic telephone systems "call transfer" feature cannot be used because of the need for a "flash hook". CAM will not work with D.I.D Trunk.
